The colored tickets on clearance merchandise are indeed for the employee. We color code by the quarter of a year. Then, we are told during grab bag time to pull all the so- called color.
I hope this makes sense. It’s more of a tool for our employees.
Are grab bags are usually after every season but unfortunately Halloween and fall grab bags have been delayed until a certain day in January. I’ve said to much. Lol.

Michaels employee here. I'd like to touch on a few things.
1. Employees ARE NOT allowed to bring coupons up on their phone. Coupons MUST be shown at the time of purchase.
2. What he says at 1:34 is incorrect. You do not get $5 just because you buy one of those items. You get whatever percentage of the item is worth that week in a voucher. Ex: You buy $100 of bella + canvas shirts. You have a 20% off coupon so thats $80. There is a promotion on those shirts that you receive 25% back on your michaels account. You don't get $5 UNLESS you spend over $25, AND if you are emailed that deal. NOT all members get that at the same time. But you do anyway so theres $5 + whatever 25% of 80 is, so $20 + 5 = $25 in vouchers. Also, the vouchers do expire.
3. You can NOT stack coupons. If you have a 20% off coupon and a 15% sale item coupon, and you have a $10 item, ONLY the 20% coupon will work. The ONLY time you can use 2 coupons is if you buy regular AND sale coupons, AND you have both coupons. If you have a $10 item that is regular price, and a $20 item that is on sale for $10 (Sale NOT clearance), the $10 reg price item will become $8 and the sale price would be $8.50.
4. At least in our store. grab boxes ARE NOT offered monthly. They are barely offered 3x a year. If you really want a grab box, call your local michaels every morning ONLY WHEN the seasonal stuff has been 70% off for a while.
5. Number 7 is completely false. The tags are really what year they were ticketed, but if an item is missing a clearance tag which was supposed to be on a product in 2019 but an employee finds it hiding in a bunker and tags it in 2021, it will be marked as if it is a 2021 clearance item. Blue tags ARE NOT seasonal items. Yellow tags are supposed to be regular price only items that don't have a location. Pink is 2021. Orange or blue is 2020.The other one is 2019.
6. Employees NEVER update the product price directly on the product UNLESS it is clearance. Seasonal items will be right over or under or next to signs that say that section is 50% off or 70% clearance or 25% off.
7. Number 9 is very iffy. Unless you are an employee that gets 30% off everything including sale items, just wait until the items go on clearance then pick from there.
I’m an educator and purchased new decor for my classroom 3 weeks ago and when I asked if they offered a teacher discount the girl said NO. Can I challenge that?
Shop at the very end of a season. You'll have less selection, but you might get 50-60 percent off. Former Michael's employee.
as a michael's employee I appreciate tip 8. so many people come up to my register and get upset when an item is not listed as the price they were expecting, and there is little to nothing I can do about changing the price. also sometimes the price checkers are not always working but you can go up to almost any employee with an RF scanner and they can inform you of the sales price. aswell as the register has a price lookup so you can check the price before making your decision on purchasing it. please just don't yell at an employee if the item is not the price you wanted it's very rare that it's an actual pricing issue.
Michael’s has just a few of items I want to buy like watercolor brushes and artist quality paints, and sculpy clay. I went yesterday for quality water color brushes and there were 5 brushes in this huge display. I have been shopping a lot on Amazon just because they have the inventory and I have free prime shipping.
the color of the price tag means nothing it's just the color we happen to have. I would honestly recommend getting something when you need it not when it goes clearance.
I went to 2 Michael's in my area and notice they no longer have the seasonal discounts any more. Like discount on certain home decor.

I have tried to price match for identical items using Amazon and Walmart and none of my local Michael's stores will honor the price match promise. I have been to more than 10 stores and none of them will honor it. For reference I live in South Florida.
