Great tip about checking markdowns at more expensive grocery stores. I would have thought to just check them at Walmart or some place similar.

Chicken nuggets can be made by buying chicken breasts on sale, cut them in small pieces, wrap them in flour, fry them in olive oil and freeze for when they are needed. This could save a lot of money for the busy mom of small kids. Better than paying a huge amount for processed ones. Good video as always!

We grow and can much of our own stuff. 2 adults, 1 ravenous teen, 2 standard poodles, 2 cats. $425 a month. That includes everything in Oregon. I always meal plan. I'm still learning from you. Thank you!

Watching this because I finally looked at my spending and found that my wife and I have been spending $2000 groceries and $1000 restaurants a month for the last 2 years. I got a good paying job. Things got paid and had no problem paying the bills. Two years later I realized I barely have any savings lol. Eye opening to know the type of consumers we have become.

lorraine van Loo says:

You have helped a lot with the groceries. I only buy marked down items and the fun thing is i saved a lot of money on it. I will never stop doing that

Ashley O'Quinn says:

As a pediatric nurse practitioner and a CPT with some extra certifications in nutrition and also a mom who practices frugal and minimalist living, I’d like to point out some things I like and don’t like here: first of LOVE meal planning!! It’s essential for saving money and staying organized…however I would not feed hot dogs and macaroni and cheese to my dog much less my child…or 73%27% ground beef to my child either…it’s important to prioritize money on higher quality nutritious food there are ways to save money but worth it to pay more for the grass fed lower fat content meat and dairy. Ham and pork ribs are cheaper but high sodium content and not very healthy. Also going to multiple stores just to save money seems too extreme; you have to value your time at something also. You could be spending that time with family or doing something to bring in more income. I pay to have my groceries delivered and it’s worth every penny!! I don’t have to fight traffic or waste money on gas or risk getting in a car accident either. It’s one thing if you truly cannot afford to feed your family well, but if you can then it’s worth the extra money.

I really want to meal plan. My family is big eaters. So the meals you make have small potions that will not satisfy the men in my family. Also I am in need of meals that do no include red meat/hamburger my husband has high cholesterol and needs to cut down on the red meats. Please help. Thank you so much.

Rachel Aubrey says:

I have a real problem with leftovers. I must be really good at estimating how much food we will eat or else we are really greedy. 😆 the most I ever have leftover is about half a portion which is no good for our family of 4. Everywhere on YouTube I hear about using leftovers….sigh!

I just subscribed, God bless you for this channel. I am going to have to file bankruptcy tomorrow because of medical bills, and I can stick to a budget, but I end up having to cut out true essentials because of grocery costs. Priscilla Oquendo says:

Long time follower and not one to write often. I just want to say I am so grateful for all of your tips. I don't have a lot of places that does mark downs often but in one of my markets they have a prduce bag that's $1.50 which can have a mix of veggies and fruits which help us get through the week. Also pantries have helped so much. I'm learning to do better and even shop bjs. Aldi by me has been so pricey as well. All your tips are awesome so thank you

Tony Bucca says:

"Hacks" is hackneyed…STAHP!!!!

Joan Prout says:

Many years ago when I shopped on the drive home from work,I realized that the market marked down the best. Cuts of beef for grilling on Tuesday afternoons after a rainy summer weekend. The beautiful cuts they had expected to sell the previous Friday were discounted like fresh flowers on February15th. Home to the freezer went some very nice steaks.

JustMeJK says:

I do my main grocery shopping at a Kroger store that I typically stop at on my way home from work. Lately, every time I go, I look at what has been marked down in the meat section and have gotten some great deals. My most recent one was 1 lb of kobe beef burgers for $5.69. I've recently started using a cast iron skillet which is new for me. Every time I cook something in it I think to myself "adventures in cooking!" (Because I'm just winging it) LOL. I got a pack of Italian sausage for like $2.50 and a big value pack of chicken thighs for like $4. I mean, why not, right? I live alone so for dinners I just buy some bargain meat and have plenty of veggies to roast. And, even though the prices have gone up, I always have eggs. When in doubt I cook eggs any time of day.

L Macdonald says:

Agreed. Cooking from scratch or thereabouts is a way to tailor to your tastes, know what’s in your food and typically save.

Rasta Schatzie says:

Shop at small & ethnic markets

Jamie Howard Sears says:

Chubby Hubby IS legit!!

Carol Hanna says:

Maybe YOU don’t need wine pairings, cheese boards, and 5 desserts. But me??? …… I also don’t need that lol

Jesse schbrt says:

Thank you so much. I want to figure out how to get laundry soap soaps and paper products cheaper, i compared amazon to walmart and its exactly the same. I have an ollies here but thats random stuff, i also am starting to go to dollar tree for the "junk food" i try to avoid but my daughter and father loves to snack after dinner.

I wish i can coupon but that is a whole job in itself. Lol.

Catherine Mccright says:

i want to see a budget friendly for people who are health conscious/weight loss journey/diabetic, if anyone can do it you can!

melissa jackson says:

No shade… why do you put your vegetable in a plastic bag? I try my best to limit my waste and it literally killed me to see your cucumbers , bell peppers and the one other in separate bags.

I put my veg in my cart without bags because I’m going home and wash them. That’s water waste. I’d rather do that than a product possibly not recycled.

Kathie Mott says:

I found a way to make black beans and rice a whole lot healthier than what you can get at Taco Bell, and in larger servings. I cook a large pot of brown or wild rice; a large pot of black beans; chop and sauté two large sweet onions; peel and cut into chunks a bunch of garlic cloves; add some sweet corn; mix all together with some cumin and chili powder. If I want some meat texture added, I would just add riced cauliflower to the mix. The sweet corn can be one package frozen or two cans drained. I am plant based diet, my son isn't, but he also enjoys this. The reason for making a big batch of this. My son also enjoys fixing stir fry meals. I prepare the veggies for frying and cook the rice and soba noodles and he stir fries the prepared veggies. The veggie mix is different each time we make it. When we can find it, we put in a certain squash from Costa Rica. We also use regular eggplant or asian eggplant. Those are the special items we use. Otherwise it is any combination of broccoli, onion garlic, baby corn, bean sprouts, sugar snap peas, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, mushroom, and assorted colors of bell peppers. Yes, we make a big batch of sit fry also. Unknown to my son, I use this to get more veggies down him without even trying. :). We are currently in the process of moving from Virginia to Oklahoma, so we have some things packed with boxes staked everywhere. I would love to have a place to make bread here but no longer do because of the packing. I will be able to once we get moved . We currently live in a situation with three families in one townhouse. My daughter, her husband and her inlays are helping us find a place that is within our means. Rent is a lot less and so are utilities. If I remember, food was a lot less also. Can hardly wait for us to get there. :). Thank you for all the ideas and helps that you give us here. These days any kind of help is useful. 🙂
