My Single Man 7 quart Crock pot Pintos and meat, cheap and delicious. I do this twice a month : 1. Find a grocery store that puts all meat going out of date in a special bin/place. That is 100% of your meat for the month not counting chicken, it's already cheap in a 10 lb bag of quarters/legs. Immediately freeze all meat and don't thaw till you cook.
2. Turn your slow cooker on high empty to jump start the heating process. 6 cups pinto beans, rinse in colander & put in 7qt crock pot, cook after boil, 8-12hrs to defeat the gas pintos give you, TIME and HEAT is what gets the gas out. I boil filtered water (in a cheap Brita pitcher) in a pot and dump that on pile of beans in slow cooker to jump start the cooking process (saves 1-2 hours cook time), fill the slow cooker to the top, on High, and recheck it to add more water as beans soak up water, you don't ever want dry beans on top, they burn and ruin the whole thing. NOW we can eat them all month with no (or at least extremely little gas) and they shelve store long term and are cheap. I put a nice pile of Salt, black pepper, onion and garlic powder, a lot, cause it is a full 7 quarts!
That cheap discount meat we bought, any kind of pork or beef, we want 2lbs meat to 6-7- cups pinto beans in crock pot and you can combine like half burger and half stew meat or a steak or Pork (I personally don't combine beef with pork) that was all bought at discount in that special bin/place in store. After Pintos have boiled 6-7 hrs Chop meat into little tiny pieces and brown in skillet with a little water or oil and just dump the whole thing on top of pinto beans on the last 2 hours of cook time and mix in with big metal serving spoon. Cook time is after it starts boiling, minimum of 8 hours, on high. 12-14 won't hurt it to bad if you can't help it.
I reuse butter containers to put the bean/meat mixture in and put 6-7 of them in freezer. They are kinda small portions but that's what sides are for. Half small onion, one pickled Jalapeno, cook 2 small red or gold potatoes in microwave and put butter on em, 2-4 slices of wheat bread with either 1/2 or whole slice cheese on each and optional whole can of .50 cent vegetables Corn or Green Beans bought at Dollar General 2/$1, even less with Saturday coupon receipt, and 1 giant Pickle for desert.
That's it. I do this twice a month and eat one every 2-3 days. and it's like I'm making money every time I eat it!
Since I'm at home I'll push it to the max and do 7 cups pintos to 7 quart cooker. Really gotta max that water out and its kinda over full with no room for any meat. So when it's time to add meat, I take out one meal serving of plain beans for that nights supper and eat that, then add 2lbs meat to pot, cook for another 1-2 hrs, then freeze in containers.
FREE EXTRA ADVICE . Buy 1 can of $1.50 white sausage gravy and 1 $1.44 Jumbo Biscuits. You already know where I'm going with this lol. Bake biscuits and heat gravy in bowl in Microwave. cut biscuits in half, put some sliced cheese on all of em and either cover them with gravy or I like to take a mouthful of gravy with spoon as I eat them, no wastage. Same sides or whatever. 2 plates! It's like making money when you eat it! Where else can you get 2 plates of biscuits with cheese and sausage gravy for $3?!

Vector and bitmap stuff says:

to save money on food, you should ditch all junk food and drinks such as soda drinks, chocolate, candies, loaf meat, canned food, cigarettes, alcohol etc.

Grandpa Can Cook says:

Thanks for this video. Some great tips. I especially like the idea of having some quick stuff at home so you don't have to go to the store. I'm the type of guy that when Helen asks me to stop and just pick up a carton of milk I normally have the shopping cart full before I get to the milk.

David Jenson says:

Your words were powerful comparing throwing out food to throwing out money ! This really hits home for me. Thank you for sharing. David . Chicago

Rhonda&olivia Westmoreland says:

How often do u go and buy food

Xtine Johnes says:

Why not get a rice cooker? I bought a rice cooker on sale for $13 in an Asian store and that thing has lasted me so many years, it's going on over 10 years. You put rice and water in it, push the button and voila, rice in like 15 min. So easy and fresh! Those packets truly are bad for you and they don't taste nearly as good as the fresh, fluffy rice from the cooker. I haven't eaten one of those in years.

I believe in all of it except saving old milk, juice and food that has been sitting around. That's one of the things I won't do to save money.

Sonny says:

Great Video. Thank you for posting. It was helpful. Again, Great work !!

Dakota Maslow says:

I have a tip for you. Fruit juice will your teeth out. Only give it as a treat. And I personally avoid milk because it gives me acne and makes me bloated. I get my calcium from vegetables, but to each their own.

Alexandra Smith says:

Don't buy juice. Number one, you will save money. Number two, juice has TONS of sugar! it's better to pack a piece of fruit. I save money by not even buying junk or limiting what we buy. Then I portion them out for each child based on age, and needs.

momof2 says:

Those of us who are older, and experienced Moms have been doing these things for years. One note…..pour your child less milk to begin with, they can always have more. Much more hygienic then saving it .Make meals ahead of time and freeze them. This prevents you from using unhealthy, high sodium, prepackaged foods.
