This video is about the stick welding portion of the 6g welding test with a monster coupon.
I worked with instructor Kyle Lockwood -GA trade school.
I tried to show different body positions and methods because there are many ways to go about a 6g stick welding test.
The monster coupon is becoming more and more popular with welding employers because it provides a broader range of welding qualifications than most other standard wall thickness 6g pipe welding tests.

I was taught to never have your stops meet in the same spot which is what Kyle did. Maybe I was taught just a different method but that method was taught to me by an ex boilermaker at my trade school

Does weaving increase the chances of slag being trapped inside the weld and busting x-ray? Or does the welding pool burn all that out?

Joe Average says:

YOU confused this video. U never showed us all the passes one after another and U never had to go to that little kid so HE can show us. U had sufficient knowledge and skill to demonstrate this rather than run up and down trying to decorate this video and add to it what does not belong.
No disrespect, I really respect you and I gave it a thumbs UP. Cheers

My review of my experience at this school. Unacceptable, straight up, I only spent one week in this program but Ive spent 20+ years working my ass off, most recently in the United Steel Workers Union, working safely and respectfully making world class products. so when I say these things I say them from experience. Im not just bitching, and I could easily keep my mouth shut and pass this course, and do very well I might add. But an actual honest review of this place that could even begin to prepare you for what is actually happening here is impossible to find and I want people like me, who do their homework to be warned, so Im going to break down my week at the georgia trade school.
So the first day of class was pretty eye opening. First thing was a talk with Miss Elaine which given the setting was next to inaudible and you really had to struggle to try and hear her, hoping you didnt miss anything she said ( and that is a pretty real world scenario, but not very effective for learning quickly). I think she told us what tools from our bag we needed and what we would be doing, but she had to make sure to let us know that she wouldn't be taking any shit from us ( which is fine, but quite irrelevant, since Im not here to give you shit Im here to learn some shit.) So we gather the tools we would be needing and head to our booths to get started, and we burn 6010 beads all day, I enjoyed it , however what I didnt enjoy in the least were a few things at the end of the day. we gathered up in a group and Steve Leone ( an instructor) gives a little run down of what was expected for clean up, I cant remember if that was before or after he literally called some kid named Patrick a piece of shit and some other very shitty things to say, in front of the whole group. (a lil professionalism would be nice), I dont care why he said those things I just know its not ok, whatsoever, no foreman or supervisor in the real world, even if he was thinking it, would say that or if he slipped he probably wouldn't keep his job or at least be corrected, at least in any place worth being, super unprofessional and distasteful but lets move on.
They have here a student leader or mentor program, Im not sure what its called, but I feel like its simply in place to allow staff an hour lunch, and if not, I dont care why, its dumb, were talking students who for the most part have no real world experience, and I dont care what you learned in 7 or 13 weeks, you dont know shit, you shouldnt be mentoring anyone. This poses a couple of issues in my opinion, firstly – now, at least in my case, your schools reputation and face becomes some random kid who I don't know jack from jill and I can promise doesnt know his ass from a hole in the ground, getting all aggressive with me like I work for him, the one I dealt with was rude as fuck, they're not all this way but still, not cool at all. The second rude as fuck student mentor that I dealt with was attempting to teach me how to use a cutting torch, this is where that safety video from orientation comes into play, which even without,I would still know definitively that this kid was not right at all, plus his rude little attitude and snide remarks are super distasteful. Anyways, after going with the flow to get through the mess, I spent an hour rewatching a proper safety video and taking notes to unlearn any bullshit that was just fed to me by some random kid. But to top that, and I laugh at this, today, when Steve Leone was showing us again how to use a cutting torch , can you guess? not even close to the video!!! what in the flying fuck are you doing? Have you ever heard of regulator burnout? do you even know to face your fuckin face away from the direction shit may possibly explode from? do you even know what a dual seat valve is, or that you dont just start crankin a high pressure fuckin tank open? Do you even know that not every torch head uses the same pressure? so telling me that x and y are the correct pressure for every situation is complete incompetence!!! do you even know what a decent torch cut looks like and how to make one happen? literally man there is so much wrong with what youre teaching that I laugh. I mean for fuck sake you show how to cut shit and leave so much slag that I have to spend my entire day grinding shit that literally doesnt need to be there at all ,or beating huge chunks of it off with a hammer shooting the shit across the room, accident waiting to happen. You could have at least gave the guy next to you a heads up, Fuckin dumb ass.
Thats not the only safety issue I encountered, this work is already dangerous by nature, being stupid and or ignorant only compounds the danger. Here is something stupid, and completely unacceptable, try no face shields in the grinding booths, are you kidding me? there is literally no where worth being that would allow you to use a 4 inch grinder on a piece of steel with out safety glasses and a face shield, absolutely not, in fact, it would be a fireable offense in plenty of cases and at minimum immediate disciplinary action would be taken, and on top of that its an osha standard that you wear a face shield or goggles when grinding. You guys gotta be kidding me. Steve tells us how there is some portfolio of students who got their faces and legs cut, he blames it on something to do with the guard. I dont know how they got cut on the legs ( thinking about this its probably because no one bothers to show them or warn them how to be careful for when the disk wears out and will likely snap and fuck you up), but I can say with certainty that the face cuts are almost completely avoidable. know how? face shields!!! you literally told me that you have a whole picture book of same case injuries ( in case you dont know what same case means, it is when something happens more than once with the same result, which is in close relation to the definition of insanity), and yall literally dont do anything to correct it?!?! In what world is that even remotely smart?!!! In my opinion those are two very large issues and here at georgia trade school its just how it is, makes me feel kinda bad for the people that dont know any better..
what kind of shit are you trying to teach people? how to accept unsafe working conditions as normal and ok? How to be the biggest asshole you can be and act like a high school student when youre supposed to be professional? I dont get it, and Im not done, we gotta talk about classroom time.
In the classroom, a little fun is great, I can dig it. And dont get me wrong I have a nasty mouth and come up with some pretty gross shit every now and again but there is a time and place for that as well as a proper audience. But watching 2 instructors play touchey feely and talk about how they wanna suck each others dicks ( or something of that nature, I tried not to even listen to the idiots so who knows what they really said, I promise it wasnt anything I want to hear though.) multiple times in a few days , again super unprofessional and totally distasteful. Steve again, has to be sure to call this Patrick kid a fucking retarded piece of shit and tell him how he wishes he could beat the shit out of him or how violent he makes him feel. ( Im saying this literally. he actually gets away with saying this shit, in his words " if anyone has a problem with the way I talk we can go to Joanna right now, the buck stops here with me, I have literally gone up with students and they quit" )this is not ok. If for whatever reason this Patrick ( which in the week I was here I never heard more than 2 words from) kid is a problem you need to do this shit in private, like a professional, and its not like stev is trying to be a drill instructor or something he is literally just being a cock sucker. I gotta give it to the guy he can actually teach, I cant deny that, but this level of unprofessional-ism from a guy that I watched on a high school recruitment video saying how they cram a 4 year learning course into 14 weeks, and how they are teaching students how to become industry leaders? give me a fucking break. Youre teaching students that being rude, immature, unprofessional and unsafe jackasses that wouldnt know world class quality if it shit on them,( because youre sure not teaching it )is industry standard. I can tell you that is not the case and is exactly what we dont need in the workforce, more jackasses and assholes that think they know something when they dont there are plenty of those, definitely not industry standard though.
Can you learn how to weld here? Sure! But you can also learn how to weld at literally any other welding school. Can you complete this program and get started in a decent career from here? Im sure you can. if you want to learn how to be an asshole and work completely unsafe and that good ole elbow grease is far superior to actually doing shit right the first time, and that in some random jackasses opinion thats just "how it is" in the real world ( I mean sure nothing is perfect, and you will always have to solve problems, but you should always be aiming for perfection, and how can you even know what that is if youre being shown something not even close). I can tell you with certainty that it isn't, anywhere thats worth being puts safety on top of the list and keeps it there no exceptions, Quality and doing shit right the first time is a very close second as well as keeping shit professional.
It is simple to take advantage of consumer ignorance, it is much harder to deliver on your word, and based on the projected image of this school theyre definitely not delivering
