I base my money saving shopping on only buying what I need. A handful of coupons would not tempt me to buy things I neither need or want. I am not loyal to one supermarket, I shop in lots of places which offer me the best prices. Coupons are a marketing tool to get people to spend more money, I never see any for the items I normally buy. I decide how much I spend and where I spend it.

Often times the coupons are for name brand items or like your coupon that wants you to spend so much money because the store knows that most people will spend more than that amount.

Yes, or pass those coupons for $$$ off onto a larger family who may easily spend 40 pounds at a time. But using them just to use them is wasteful.
Coupons sound like hassle. I was struggling for 30 minutes today just to get my printer to work.

Excuse the late comment. I so agree with everything you say. I am shopping in the same way as you do. Cooking all from scratch, buying yellow sticker grub and what is cheap. Keep going Meanqueen you are sending out all the right advice.
It is A marketing ploy but if you are spending £40 on that one shop then you save the 6 quid and that's good because you were spending that anyway, the coupons on individual specific items aren't good unless you needed that anyway, the best coupons and they do crop up every so often is where its a free item there was one in the tesco magazine which is free for a free pouch of baby food i got a load of the magazines and got about 40 pouches of the fruit ones 6 months plus and squeezed them on my porridge (as no babies here) they were lovely

Exactly! People always think that a deal is a good deal because the super markets have 'slashed' the prices down, when in reality you aren't really saving that much money at all. Most of the coupons that I see always require you to spend a sum of money before you can save a paltry amount – rather than doing that, I'd rather source items on the cheap and save money without needlessly over spending. And also, often the coupons aren't even for anything you were originally interested in, so you end up buying whatever the offer is on and get tricked into saving money! It's absolutely preposterous!

This may sound daft but when I get a coupon from somewhere that I don't need I pop it next to the item in the store for someone who may use that brand and save the money. I haven't used a coupon for years, we don't get many here. The pharmacy has some next to the item or they have a sale price, if I use that brand I'll buy two and put them in my store closet.I like to have some items on hand so I don't have to go shopping every week and impulse buy.
I tried coupons but I wasted more money for products I didn't need. It doesn't work for me.

I’m with you I recently got a $5 coupon to a dress shop, my husband asked if I was going to buy something to use the coupon, and I told him the same thing you just said “ I don’t need any new clothes” so that coupon went in the bin. If I need new clothes I go to one of the many op-shops in our town. And like you we shop around, we raised 5 children on my husbands Navy pay, I didn’t work and although they didn’t get everything they wanted we did ok. In fact they would pop into the op-shop after school (high school) pick what the wanted, ask the ladies to keep it for them because mum will be in tomorrow to pay for it. And I did. Now they have their own families, paying off their homes and know how to budget and take care of their money. Lesson well learned in my opinion.

You haven't lost £6, you have just 'not spent £40'. The companies aren't doing some kind of public service out of the kindness of their hearts by offering these supposed 'savings' for 'free'… surprise surprise there is plenty in it for them as other commenters have outlined already. Great decision!
I know coupons are a big marketing scam but tbh we only use coupons that get us free food or for literally pennies, or free by combining with cashback apps, things that we will use, or maybe coupons for free items eg milk, butter etc that I can then donate to caring cafe (we can't have them cause of cows dairy allergy). Also saved us £4 a week when we were first adjusting to changing our diets cause of food allergies. Not loyal to any supermarket either and make full use of their loyalty schemes doing surveys etc for points. We also womble and use the asda price guarantee for a voucher off our next shop. So it works for us but it's not for everyone. I pay less than £5 a month on groceries for myself and my kids which includes cleaning products. We are living below the breadline though so we make it work. Still, I don't think I'd ever use those larger vouchers unless I was doing my 6 monthly alternative milk shop. Btw if you ever shop at asda, check you receipt with asdaprice guarantee site. If it has anything on it and you shop at asda you might as well get your money off next time. I may be a bit obsessed with couponing sometimes but not with spending them if its going to cost me more. I do know some that just have to spend a coupon and think its a great deal though when theres the same thing that would cost £2 less ect. That to me is crazy. Great video

i have tried coupons before but noticed quickly that they were for nothing that I would buy. Mainly fast packaged meals. I never went back to them again. But on a great note, now and then KROGER foods sends out an envelope containing regular coupons and some "FREE" items coupons. Last month I stopped in with them and picked up a free Kroger brand peanut butter and a Mayonaise. But i do not use the regular ones. Great video!
I used to obsess over using coupons before I started meal planning. Now I almost take joy in throwing away an expired coupon when I usually see that the coupon was for an item that I was successful in resisting the temptation to buy just because I had a coupon. Then when I DO use a coupon, it's doubly satisfying because I know I truly saved money by buying what I needed AND having a coupon. It's finally working for me. Diane in North Carolina
I so hate these style of shopping voucher. I get load of them from Tesco. Sainsbury's. On average I do £10 – £12 every time I go shopping
The whole point of these coupons is to encourage loyalty to one shop and make us spend more than we intend/need to. It's not a saving if we don't need to spend that much! I'm like you…I only get what I need from various shops
