at the end of the day you're paying the same as everyone else is, but for stuff you don't necessarily need or can't possibly use. that is why it may seem shocking that the average moderate shopper will still spend less than you in a supermarket, because they are more likely to buy less items overall, that are not immediately necessary.

for example, you are buying quantity of an item at a reduced cost, but the tax is still being applied per-item. meaning you are still paying tax for every individual item.

you still have to pay for fuel for your vehicle, even if for example you shop biweekly and one of those trips includes your regular shop, plus all of the couponing items, it only adds weight to your vehicle, costing you more mpg.

there are many axis where this is not a financially sound habit. the receipt is telling you that you are getting "savings" but you are inarguably spending more overall on items that are not immediate necessities.
