As a server currently at olive garden ill say this is not true. With the margaritas, we use smaller straws as traditionally margarittas and other drinks do have (cocktail straws). However, with soft drinks, we use a standard black plastic disposable straw. For kids, we use a standard white plastic disposable bendy straw.
For the refill policy, we are actually supposed to grab refills for our guests before they ask us for one. When we see the glass is about halfway full, we are trained and should grab a refill. (This includes our raspberry lemonade, all of our teas, coffee and water thermos, kid drinks, etc.
Only drinks we recharge for are bar drinks/wines/specialty made by server drinks (strawbery passionfruit limenada, iced coffee [both vanilla and caramel], etc.).
But the breadsticks he mentioned as cardboard, yeah, they're gross. Basically come to us as solid pieces of dry-ass dough at room temperatures, then we put 18 on a baking sheet, throw four-ish trays into the quick oven at 450⁰F for 1 min and 50 seconds, then rotate them 180⁰ then another 1 min and 25 seconds. Pull them out, slather them with margerine (not butter), and then cover them with garlic salt. But yeah, they are basically cardboard. Kinda gross ngl.
They didn't really scam,,so basically what you call a "free refill" should cause the restaurant to go bankrupt? I mean what are we to cause their restaurant to go bankrupt just because theyre using trickery for their free redill policy.

Just don't use a straw. Saint Jesus, y'all need to calm down.
“They make their straws smaller so you wouldn’t ask for another refill”
Me who still gets 3 more drinks: “I don’t think it works.”
"The cardboard they call breadsticks" IM FUCKING SORRY!?
I just ate at Olive Garden couple days ago this is 🧢
I went yesterday and I got 3 refills also their breadsticks are amazing and that’s not how you say their name
Just bring your own straw

What I always think- is when they purposefully misspell words, the video is fake
The breadsticks there are delicious! And there straws are normal it’s just the cocktail straws that are small
