Here is the procedure I take when shopping online for the most discounts for any item I am trying to get. Follow these steps and you will surely get quick discounts and save you a lot of money in the long run. Be sure to only apply the proper amount of effort for the item. I.e. more effort for higher priced items. Less effort and less comparison for cheaper items.

Lol I only do those steps you mentioned if I am making a big purchase.. if I just want to get shampoo etc, I normally just browse the store’s app or the newsletters for coupons.. personally I prefer to shop at Target since they could price match to whatever..

My philosophy is patience. When I want an item, I generally don’t pull the trigger right away but instead look at its MSRP and then wait until a sale or coupon pops up. I like your additional tips too!

I search coupon codes from RetailMeNot. I Google the name of the store with coupon codes. I use sales plus a coupon for 40% off the item, that adds up to savings.

KillTheMethod says:

Keep in mind that many brick and mortar retailers these days, particularly electronics stores like Best Buy and Fry's, will price match any big online retailers on almost all their items. It's often a very competitive offering because as a real retail store, you can see the item in person, get the item same day, and should you require a return, it's far far more convenient and you never have to pay return shipping. Plus there are some items that you may not want to have shipped to you by UPS or FedEx, like a 4K TV or something else that's big and fragile.

have you used honey for firefox/google chrome before? It is an add on that automates online coupons, it will search for coupons based off the website youre on and then apply them if you let it. It's pretty neat

Barrett says:

I'm not sure if it works with shopping portals, but the Honey plugin for Chrome is a great way to save on online purchases!

A tip:

I usually go on the normal site (or via an app), put my items in my cart, then I close the window and open ebates (ebates has an app too). My items will already be in my cart and all I have to do is pay.

It gets annoying to go through ebates sometimes because I like to open tabs which I think takes me out of the ebates site and I don't get my cashback (they may have changed this since the last time I've tried).

I do this mostly for Amazon, eBay, Nike, Under Armour and Gap
