Today I’m going to explain how Walgreens’ savings programs works so that you can get free deals there every week. Now the key is to start by getting the Walgreen’s balance rewards card. This is a relatively new program, but it’s very easy to use. It does a couple of things; it gives you the sale prices for the stores promotional items and it also accumulates points, which you can redeem for rewards in the form of store credit. To give you an idea, if you accumulated forty-thousand points that’s like equal to $50.

What I like about balance rewards is that they track the rewards automatically; you don’t need to worry about it. Buy the items; it’s in your account. Secondly, is that reward points don’t expire for three years, as long as you’re an active remember, so you don’t have to remember a coupon to bring back the next week. Thirdly, they’re really easy to redeem. Every time you pay for your Walgreens order, the screen will ask you if you want to pay with some of your points and you can say, yes or you can just let them to continue to grow.

The more points that you have, the more they’re worth. Another program Walgreens has is the register rewards program. This is a coupon that prints after you buy a qualifying item and that works just like store credit on a future order. Remember though they expire in two weeks, so you must remember to bring that with you on your next store visit. They also accept manufacturer’s coupons, but they don’t double them. They have store coupons, which you can combine with the manufacturer’s coupon to save more.

Find store coupons in the monthly savings booklet, in the weekly ad. You can also print them from Walgreeens.com; they’re called instant value coupons. Other ways to save at Walgreens is to use their pharmacy coupons. They give you a 25 dollar gift card when you transfer a prescription and you can find those coupons in the weekly circular. They also have mail in rebates. Now mail in rebates change every month; there are five or six of them in the back of the monthly savings booklet. You can find them at Walgreens.com as well and they’re usually for the price of the item.

If you elect to get the rebate value in the form of a Walgreens gift card, they’ll even give you a ten percent bonus, so you get free item and you’ll make some profit. Walgreens has plenty of great savings programs. Let’s put them together to get some great deals. These are some deals I got this week. This Starbucks iced coffee is usually a $1.99, by using the balance rewards card, I get the sales price of .99 cents. I pay that at the register and then I get a .99 cent register rewards coupon, which I can use on my next order, effectively my net cost is absolutely free.

Walgreens had a promotion on Almay cosmetics this week, which buy one, get one fifty percent off. This makeup remover is usually 5.99, so one would be 5.99 and one would be 2.99. Walgreens also had a store coupon in the monthly savings booklet for $2.00 off each item and there was a manufacturer’s coupon I printed for $5.00 off two. Now if you put all that together you end up getting both items absolutely free. Now one note, Walgreens’ coupon policy says that if the coupon is more than your total they will adjust the value of the coupon down.
The total was 4.98, my coupon was $5.00, the cashier changes the value of the coupon to 4.98 so that the transaction will work. If they don’t know that, be sure to let them know that, and it makes sense to take their printed coupon policy with you when you shop. I also got this Kleenex Cottonelle bath tissue; twelve rolls was on sale for $5.00. Walgreens had a promotion that gave you three-thousand balance rewards points when I bought $15.00 worth of Cottonelle products, that would be three of these. Now, three-thousand points is equal to about $3.75 in my account. I also had three manufacturer’s coupons for 50¢ off each one.

That means instead of paying $15.00 at the register, I paid $13.50. I got $3.75 in my account. My net cost for each of these was only $3.25. As far as mail in rebates, there was a special rebate on this toothpaste. The toothpaste was on sale for $5.00 and the mail in rebate was $5.00, so I’d get it absolutely free. However, if I choose to get the Walgreens gift card, which I will, I’ll get $5.50, so I’ll get the item free and I’ll make a 50¢ profit.

I have a 4 BOGO manufacturers coupon for an item that Walgreens also has a coupon in their monthly book.  The Walgreens coupon says "limit one coupon per customer per offer".  Does that mean I cannot use that Walgreens coupon again the next day?
