This actually isn't a scam, and most people haven't thought it through:

Digital download of 99% of nintendo games = £49.99

Physical copy of the same games = £39.99

Two digital copies = £99.98 and with the discount from vouchers (which cost £84), it would save £7.99 per game.

But physical copies on amazon are £39.99, so if you buy physical, you save £10 per game.

So you'd think getting the physical copies is STILL cheaper, right? Nope. This is because you're forgetting about the nintendo gold points you get from buying the vouchers.

A pair of vouchers gives you 4.20 worth of gold points, so that saves £2.10 additionally per game. £7.99 + £2.10 = £10.09 saved per game when using the vouchers. So actually, you save slightly more using vouchers.

And of course as explained in this video, if one of the games like smash costs £59.99 instead, you save £12.99 per game, which is even more.

The only way this doesn't save you money is if you don't use nintendo online. But me along with many other people were going to pay for online either way, so it doesn't matter. We were always going to buy online.

League of me says:

Why not make it so that the games are free with the vouchers since the paying for NSO and are also buying it digitally meaning it can’t be given back to a game store

Icy says:

I have a question about this since I just got a switch. I currently don’t have switch online so can’t get this deal yet, but if I were to get a month long membership, would I still be able to download it. And when the trial runs out will I still be able to play the games, or use the vouchers if I have them saved up? I’m looking to get smash bros. and breath of the wild which would save me £36, so this seems like a great deal.

MsLondon56 says:

I can still use them in 2021.

These seem to be gone now?

How am I meant to get them?

The J50 From Nowhere says:

Ok, so 2 games is $120, and with the vouchers you get them for $100. But you need to pay $20 for the online membership. So either way it’s $120.

AK vines says:

Yes it is right

Shelvs HOTpencil says:

Can this beat 60% off sales? The answer is no. But if you are an impulse buyer this is a great deal.

CasioMan says:

I'm going to say what no one else has mentioned here.

Alright. So you buy a subscription to Nintendo Online. Okay.

You then get offered the amazing once in a lifetime chance to buy two 'vouchers' with money that could have been used to buy a physical game for a cheaper price.

Let's not forget you can only take advantage of these vouchers within a 12 month period.

"But Josh, you make back the £17.99 you paid for the Switch Online subscription, what a deal!"

Or, I still lose 17.99 because it's something that I didn't have to pay for in the first place and shouldn't have to pay for.

I don't care how much you like digital downloads "so this is a great deal, weoww!!" You're a sell out throwing piles of cash without using your brain. These games should not be worth 50-60 pounds still.

I mean, I got Super Smash Bros. for £46.00 in the form of a download code from an online shop. Not £60. So when you calculate that, turns out you've lost £14 pounds by getting that voucher.

So around 31.99 is lost through getting these vouchers, because apparently you've just GOT to pay for online gaming these days. It's not like you were able to play for free on the Wii, Wii U, DS, 3DS… etc. But no, the Switch is different! It's got uh. It's erm. Well, it's Nintendo!

The short version: You're wasting money on these vouchers that could have been spent at anytime for anything NOT Nintendo.
