Thank you so very much for making this video! I am for sure going to use some baby food jars to make some of my jams. 🙂
Sincerely,

You say you're "not using open kettle method" but I thought that is what you're doing. I'm just learning about canning, so I apologize in advance for my ignorance. I thought open kettle is cooking the jam/jelly and letting the cooling process trigger the lids to seal. Of course there's the turning the jars over for a bit step. Have I misunderstood what the open kettle method is?

Oh thank goodness. I have had 4 babies in 4 years and I always thought I hate wasting all these glass jars it would be wonderful to use these jars again. I had forgotten about it. But now my 6month old is starting food and I am going to save all those food jars. Thank you so much.

I use to put jam and jelly in baby food jars for years.  I hadn't done it since the early 90's though since my kids stopped eating baby food. The jars may have changed since I used them because I never had trouble with them sealing.I never BWB my jams or jellies either and been canning for about 40 years.

I've been using your method for a year or so now and I love it. someone gave me some baby food jars with really old lids that just won't stay on…..and I discovered the vacuum seal fix on you tube…..it works….

Jessica Peavey says:

you know that there's an easier way to remove that glue on the jar PEANUT BUTTER. here's how
1: wipe the glue with a little bit of oil and leave it in for a min or so
2: wipe of the oil
3: rub a little bit of peanut butter over the glue and leave it in for a minute
4: rub the peanut butter with your finger or paper towel until the glue is gone.
5: rinse off the jar.

Thanks so much! This helped a lot! I'm doing a project for school with oil pulling and wanting to seal my baby food jars. I'm putting coconut oil and essential oils in my baby food jars! I've been trying to figure out how to seal them! I hope it works! Also, I've found that orange glow works instantly on the sticky part of the labels!
Thanks again!

Hi Larry – thanks for sharing and thought that you might like the experience I have. Since in the area where I live we do not have really good canning supply and as we have 2 year old I started using baby food glass jars for my jams. And I do not water bathing my jams. I just make sure that my small jars and lids are sterile, poor very hot jam into it, place the lid and roll it very tight and than – I turn the jar upside down and cover it with blanket untill they are completely cold (in general overnight) – in the morning I have sealed jam that I put in my pantry. Hope you can do so too – it is so simple

Dalton Perry says:

How can I get these baby food jars to seal up for spices and coffee?

NiftyTopaz says:

once you put the lid on the jar put the jar down on it lid to keep it on tight and as is cools jar will vacuum by itself! 🙂
