Plastic bottles and drink cans can now be exchanged for coupons at a “reverse vending
machines” in Singapore. They are being rolled out to encourage recycling. The machines —
which can take up to 600 containers — automatically identify and sort plastic bottles and
aluminum cans. For every four empty containers, people will receive a $0.20 NTUC
FairPrice coupon. Ten machines are in action and 40 more will be added by March 2020.
They can be found at FairPrice supermarkets, shopping malls and some community clubs.

I find this really shameful. idle auntie going around to pick up rubbish for voucher to offset grocery. now they wants to reduce it. it is not enough even for bus fare. doubt anyone will do it and all this going to burn n throw and pollute our sea.

Chan Emily says:

less than 2 month they change their mind, only give 20 recycled cans n bottles for 20 cents voucher which must be used in one month. that 1 cents only. a shame only for,,,,

Latest observation. There are people who bring bags filled of bottles and cans as high as 90cm in height – not one but a few bags of it. These can number to hundreds of cans and bottles. Although the machines each have a capacity of holding 600 cans and bottles, and are cleared a few times a day, but these people tends to wait there with their several bags and after every clearance they continue to put their recyclables into the bin. They don't do it one time a day but many times a day, and not one day but every day. As such this denies other people a chance to put their recyclables into the machine! The machine will be filled up within 30 minutes. I heard these people might own coffee shops, of worked at or have association with coffee shops.

unteroffizier says:

Some people just happen to finish one or two drinks and they will like to recycle on the spot without having to hold on to the empty containers. Of course they can just put it in the machine without collecting any discount voucher. But limiting to minimum of 4 cans or bottles to get one discount coupon may discourage some people, I think.
