Ryzen 5 1400 is currently going for pretty good prices, and with the recent comments I have been receiving on my e5 2420 v2 videos I thought it was time to address these and state the differences between local and worldwide deals. Though is one definitively better than the other? Well it all depends on your budget and how much you can afford.
TL:DR if you can get good deals in your country on used hardware, then it’s going to almost always be better than worldwide deals.

Great explanation, markets and value vary greatly between regions. Me living in the middle of nowhere, no MSY nearby, I'm so thankful for eBay and AliExpress deals! The, mostly, free shipping is something easily overlooked.
I do my best to cover the good and bad so you have a good idea of what you're getting, but there is always room for improvement, so that's something for me to work on also. I think we are the cusp of first generation Ryzen becoming really attractive for budget builds, even in other markets.
There are definitely Xeon CPUs with terrific value, but there are also many that are poor value, especially all the unlocked models and most higher clocked versions, they cost too much IMO.
The E5-2689 is really an outliner and has managed to stay at around USD 50, which I find quite amazing. Cheap DDR3 Registered ECC memory is where most of the savings is, but that doesn't show that much if you're going with a 8GB RAM kit. In my last video with the 2630V2 I went with 32GB as it's only ~ USD 60 and you might as well take advantage of that.

Great job Yes City! Best regards!

😒 i just came from Central America, nothing has improved! 😡 Desktop PC Parts are rare and way overpriced, there is no competition, 500 cordobas for a Core2Duo CPU & $35 for a Core2Quad CPU, there is no competition and few parts so ur gona get ripped off really badly, and if u bring desktop parts in ur luggage Aduana Customs is going to sieze it at the Airport, forcing u to go to Aduana within 21 days to pay Taxes, in my case they charged me $40 Documentation Fee + $20 for each pc part, regardless if the used old pc part costed me 5 dollars or 30 dollars for each part, its a real fkn ripoff. My total import tax was $150 dollars for 3 video cards and 3 power supplies, like WTF! 😡 Tech Yes City Gringo is fkn clueless, he doesnt get it, most of the third world is really fkn messed up with Governments ripping off Airline Passengers flying into their airports, i like to see him try flying into a Central America or South America Airport with luggages filled to the brim with Used PC Desktop Parts, hes gona get a rude awakening when Aduana gives him an Import Duty Tax Bill of a $1000 dollars, what ends up happening is the passenger refusing to pay the tax and Aduana siezing all ur sh_t!!!! 😡

Gil Andrew Leonor says:

HI! im a big fan from the philippines. its hard here finding parts from used market especially xeons. i am planning to buy from aliexpress. im interested in x3440 and e5 2420 v2 builds that you made. i cant find any video comparing x3440 vs e5 2420 v2 paired with rx570-580 or gtx 1060. Thank you for these very helpful videos. Keep it up.

Khinh Phu says:

so ryzen build better performance overall

Double Owe Seven Z says:

I have a 1400 and it's rare cpu for Ryzen chips as they never really dropped the price any (under $100) new on them in the states as https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-5-1400/p/N82E16819113437 as maybe they didn't make many of them so $61 is a steal to me .

david thunder says:

Ryzen 3 1200 rx570 vs e5 2420 v2 rx 570 which should i build i need for gaming and streaming both are of same price for me plzzzzzz helpppp

Burl Bull says:

Love your videos. Keep up the good work.

Joseph Wilkinson says:

I want to see if the 2420 can handle an rx 580 8gb and/or a gtx 1060 6gb

free thinker says:

200 $ gaming pc

free thinker says:

Wait what ? You spoke about the most heretical subject that no reviewer ever bother ! They mention everything but the main thing : if a person can only afford a 200 game , what are the odds of the person paying monthly ? 3%? The odds of buying the game. And can’t return it to eb game? 3% ?
So he or she will play f2p or very popular but to play ! Like runescape , league of legend etc ! Yep you are the men for stating what is almost never mentionned!

free thinker says:

Let’s buy a Ferrari and put its engine in a smart ! (Rofl)

free thinker says:

I think the same way ! Yes 8k is pretty , but my local cable tv provider still send all its video on 1080i , and I never complained about the quality ! So now ? I am thinking oh hooking my computer to my projector but in 1080i instead ! It would be like you setting your computer at 1280x720p

free thinker says:

Diminishing return is the main issue , as cost goes up your return on invest rent drop ! There is a sweet spot on diminishing return and the grassroots market try to stay in that sweet spot

free thinker says:

Majority of lay people are into mom and pop grassroots computer store ! Most can’t afford the shiny stuff from amd nvidia intel etc
Grassroots computing market is here to stay ! If it wasn’t China wouldn’t make brand new motherboard for those 17 dollars cpu

john g says:

The hardware elitists are very annoying in how rigid they are about all of this. Steve may be the worst though. Whether its old xeons prebuilts or 75w graphic cards: they basically will never acknowledge there are valid use cases for any of them.

They will always say there's no point in getting x over y because x is really a better value and your stupid to argue otherwise. Well according to that logic you there's no point in getting less than an RX 570, a ryzen 5, 8gb ddr4, a b450 and a 500w 80+ psu. Add a case hdd and windows and your at 500+ us dollars which could more like 700 if you are in a nation with bad pricing or 20+% vat taxes.

For an average us citizen who gets around 2000 take home pay a month that's 25% of a months take-home pay which is not insubstantial. But then look at people employed part time, people making minimum wage people living on disability full time students teenagers etc etc and it's a very substantial amount of money for them. And that's in America not even places where incomes are actually much lower where they may only make 500$ in a month or less.

And on top of that there's actual use case where if you only really play esports like mobas csgo FIFA StarCraft etc your paying for much more than you need to get 1080p 60fps and even less if a you have is a 720p or any other older monitor.

But nope paying 1/2 as much for Xeon platform or throwing 75w card In your old office PC for 150$ / finding an old prebuilt and upgrading these are niches that don't make sense and it's really dishonest to recommend anyone do so! Look I benchmarked with a 2080ti to prove it!

Guillermo Gonzalez says:

Actually that Xeon is a fantastic deal if you want to build a VM lab, 6-core 12-threads and cheaper DDR3 memory. You don't need high clocks for a normal VM lab.

The Android Arena says:

pair the xeon with RX 570 and please it would be really great if you share the video editing experience on this combo! Btw Great explanation!

Rahul Jaiswal says:

Can you pair them with 1050 ti or 1650 maybe or how about that 780ti that you bought earlier!!!??

Youtube Surfer says:

I really like these videos about old tech to see how the performance is today. But would i really recommend this old stuff to a friend? I dont think so. Thats old stuff without warrenty that can go downhill any minute and no upgrade path later if the money is no more a problem. Buy cheap and you buy twice.

mpeugeot says:

Actually… LOL I did pair a Ryzen 5 1400 with a pair of 1080ti's in SLI on a MSI Gaming Plus motherboard with a 512gb M2 SSD (sure, initially it was a mining rig, but it isn't unheard of). Now, those 1080ti's are in a better home, replaced by dual RX470 8gb cards, but still it was fun to run dual 1080ti's on the 1400.

Mitch Mckeiver says:

Some people get so anal about advice and treat it like it's a written in stone fact. Xeons and RX570's are right up there with the best price performance parts you could ever buy in Aus.

Theolonius Assington says:

Mate, why would you mention Betty's Burgers? Now I'm starving

NapFloridian says:

what a question, of cause Ryzen is better then any Intel chip

Mr11ESSE111 says:

and fakn i7 4770/k costs 170+$ as used one !! try to compare xeon with it

Mr11ESSE111 says:

r5 1600 are around 90$ there
