Sadly many ppl are getting section 8 illegally , while legit ppl are waiting I knew someone that’s still getting her rent paid for her she knows all the tricks into cheating the system , but until the PHA starts checking ppl that are in this system scamming PHA ppl that should legitimately be in the homes it will never change . This woman has married and now her main job is scamming the system being houseless or homeless is a nightmare . A lot of ppl don’t realize how one bad incident be it illness , divorce etc fire and so on it can take many years to get back on your feet my ex husband that I rented from evicted me after 14 years simply to rent to another woman he hooked up with so not only was I left with 6 weeks to find a room which I did but after 2 weeks ended up moving to another private renter who was bringing in girls of the street it was a mess . The homeless situation is out of control it’s horrible that children , babies young families have to go thru all this I’m one of them thankfully for now I’m staying with my bf that has thankfully let me live with him but each day I worry that I’ll again find myself in this predicament .

Okay so I been on the housing list since 2015 so finally today hoc has emailed me to let me know that I am eligible for the housing voucher program so now They are going to send me my packet in the mail

Not all states care about having doctor notes – I have one – in Kentucky – it is dependent upon the order in which people applied – period. I wish there were a way to move up sooner. The estimated wait time here is 5.5 years. Having disabilities and a child with disabilities here doesn't matter….living in substandard housing…doesn't matter here…etc…any ideas?

IVEbeen back in Cali for 3 yrs the rent is off the chart sec8 is for ever can't afford to go any where else and wages are not enough to apply the rent an bills

Thanks for the info! This lady makes great points! The 30% of your monthly income "rule" is actually been standard thinking nationwide for many years. At least that's what I've been told. The rush for Section 8 thus proves that property owners have been ripping off hard-working, financially struggling adults. When you learn that many of the ultra wealthy own several houses — many of which are not even occupied — some of these affluent people are thus obligated to rent the house to people desperate for housing! I've seen this first-hand — that's UNFAIR! Housing is essential for survival! Those who make it difficult perpetuate increases in crime (or at least manipulative behavior). Just be very careful how you conduct your lives — as shelters have the potential for trouble down the line. Keep up the great audio-video updates! * Section 8 hungry, Cav. *

It depends on the local Housing Authority whether they open Section 8. In Reno NV they won't open it. Las Vegas wasn't much better. You have to have proof of 3 former years rent.
