Yesterday on our GO morning show, we introduced you to local mom of three and couponing expert Rachel Krych, who is sharing her tips to make our lives easier and our wallets happier! She takes us on a deep dive of the best stores to buy from, just how to plan ahead, and what to buy when.

Here are three tips to do all of that:

Tip 1: Use a store app

“The number one tip is to download the app at your favorite store. Some of my favorite store apps are Target, Dollar General, Meijer, Giant Eagle,” she says. “One of my favorite things is the ability to be able to scan a product. So Target has the ability to scan a product in your cart and it will show you if there is a coupon available for it.”

Tip 2: Planning ahead, and how to do it

“I found early on in our marriage, if I didn’t plan our meals, then we were more likely to go out and get dinner- either fast food or ordering pizza. So what I usually do is in the beginning of the week I would get all the ads, and I base what we’re going to eat on what’s on sale,” Krych explains.

“So about once a month I’ll do an inventory of what’s in our cupboards, kind of keep track, either on paper, we also have the Alexa app. You can actually make a grocery list by just speaking to her and asking her to add things to your shopping list, which then goes to your phone.”

Tip 3: Know your sales cycle

Krych explains that many good sales may not be a one-time-thing. You’re likely to see the same sale pop up again if you just pay attention.

“So most items will go on sale about every four-to-six weeks. It’s called a sales cycle. So how that works is, lets say pasta is on sale, at the rock bottom price of lets say 79 cents, 89 cents. You know that it’ll probably hit that again within four to six weeks,” she explains.

“So I know that we’ll probably gonna have pasta at least three times within that six week period, so I’ll need three boxes of pasta.”

Friday morning on GO, Krych will explain another tip- using a money-saving app. Tune in as she walks us through the Ibotta app.
