I informed Zach (red shirt) that I would like to speak to a manager to verify the coupon policy. I was concerned because the staff was misinformed. I know Targets corporate policy well, and I figured a Manager could easily deescalate the situation. Instead, they sent security. Yes, they profiled me and sent security. Most likely assuming that I would soon act out of character. Chris, the security guard, was unable to get the reaction he had hoped for. He was instead met with an educated and sophisticated Black Woman. When we stand together in the #couponcommunity these incidents will stop. I was extremely embarrassed, but I stood up for myself. The entire incident took almost an hour. It was nearly closing time when I left.

They act like people are stealing. Jeez, they're just losing money and harassing a customer over it 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Latoya James says:

Miss i work at target… No they do not send security to speak to a customer unless they think you're stealing or like you said about to get loud irate and obnoxious

Marie Loria says:

Wait! That’s the end? Wheres the rest? What happened with the manager?

Willa Bean says:

This sounds almost identical to several experiences I've had in my local Wal-Mart.

Erin Smith says:

Good for you for calling the security guard out for smirking! He was so rude when he said, "Ma'am, your're interrupting me!" Unacceptable behavior since a) he's not a manager like you asked for and b) he keeps arguing (or trying to) with you. Ughhh! I think you sound extremely educated and articulate. I get super flustered when I try to stand up for myself…

Kaydene Williams says:

This is why I've always been hesitant to start couponing. As a black woman I'm already under so much scrutiny when I walk into a store that I hate to call more attention on myself.

SinwinX says:

Last week I tried to do a maybelline deal at CVS with snapscara and single eyeshadow and one of the coupons beeped. The cashier tried to justify it by telling me one coupon per purchase means one coupon per transaction logic. I'm not having it so I went to another CVS.

X-CELLENT job #occ , security now for coupons , omg , what next lmao @ simple security

CouponCart Club says:

always go to self checkout, Target employees are annoying

Heather Gisi says:

Omg! This is ridiculous! I can’t believe that! That is horrible! I hope target apologized to you.

Ok, after reading through the comments here is my take…first off, she was right in what she was saying. Purchase is not transaction. They didn't seem to know what they were talking about and so talked in circles probably hoping she would just say ok and drop it. You can say what you want about coupons and how annoying people are using them BUT for a lot of people they help tremendously in making ends meet and if the coupon is legit why should anyone be talked out of using them? Yet, I also understand why people in line would become upset waiting so really these issues should be resolved quickly and if not taken to courtesy. As for the profiling, it is highly possible they were, however, I too, as a white woman, have encountered similar nonsense. I once had security called on me for picking up an eraser in an art supply store because an employee insisted I was trying to slip it into my purse! If I was going to get into shoplifting I wouldn't bother with a cheap eraser! As for Target, I have had a manager called up because of a legit coupon which in the end he told me he would do me the "favor" of letting me use which, quite honestly, annoyed me as it was completely on the up and up (to use their brand as a pun) so what was the favor?? Bottom line things aren't always handled well in these stores and I see nothing wrong with standing your ground in an educated and courteous manner.
