I live in a major city where there is a Walgreens on every corner. I even have a Walgreens a half block away from my home. I've come to love Walgreens. At first, it was confusing. I didn't understand how to use Register Rewards. I kept hearing how people were getting toothpaste for free! I wanted free toothpaste! So it didn't take long to figure things out. Getting great deals at Walgreens can sometimes be complex. However, if you follow a few simple tips, you can really save a bundle when shopping there.
Simple Tips: Walgreens can be a really fun place to shop. You can get some amazing steals. The key to shopping at Walgreens is knowing how to use your Register Rewards, coupon organization and store policies. Once you have these in order, shop with confidence to get the best deals.
Walgreens Weekly In-ad Coupons: Each week, Walgreens puts out a store circular. You can get this in the Sunday paper or week long in stores. The ad typically has about 4-10 in-ad Walgreens coupons. These coupons can becombined with manufacturer coupons for extra savings. For example, in the ad discussed in my video, there is a Walgreens in-ad coupon for Gain Dish Liquid for $0.89. I also have a manufacturer coupon for $1/1 Gain Dish Liquid. I cancombine these coupons and get the Gain for FREE!
Monthly Coupon Booklet: Walgreens publishes a monthly coupon booklet that has high-value coupons good for that month. These booklets can be picked up at the front of the store where they keep their store ads.
Walgreens Register Rewards: Walgreens has a rewards program called Register Rewards. These rewards are issued when specific items are purchased, you'll be able to find these deals in their weekly ad. Once purchased, your RR's will be issued. These rewards are good towards your next purchase. Some rewards are only good for up to seven days. They CANNOT be used to buy the same exact item again, well they can...but you WILL NOT earn a second Register Reward.
For example: Crest toothpaste is on sale for $1.99. Walgreens is going to reward you for this purchase by giving you $1 at checkout in the form of a Register Reward good towards your next purchase. To make this deal even better, you can typicallycombine these items with manufacturer coupons. In this case, Crest has $1/1 coupon making this toothpaste FREE!

Coupon Policy: As of September 1, 2010, Walgreens has an official coupon policy (http://www.walgreens.com/topic/help/generalhelp/coupon_policy_main.jsp?_requestid=37856). Their policy is very detailed and clear. Especially when it comes to B1G1 offers and Register Rewards. Make sure you print a copy and keep it with you.
Coupon Order: Walgreens can be tricky at times. You will need to give your coupons to the cashier in a specific order. Always give you coupons as follows: Register Rewards first, (these count as manufacturer coupons) then actual manufacturer coupons, then in-ad/store coupons. If you don't do this, you might end up missing out on a deal and wonder what happened. Just remember, order counts!
Fillers: As with coupon order, you'll have to remember one more tip. You can't have more coupons than items. Meaning, I want to by 4 items but I have 5 coupons. This won't work unless you have a "filler" item. Walgreens keeps little caramels at their checkout. You can get 3/$0.99. These are great fillers and an easy way to get around the item limit.
