ALBANY – Chances are you may be hitting the mall this weekend to either get started or keep working on your holiday shopping. If that’s the case, make sure you bring along your smart phone.
The days of clipping coupons are a thing of the past, you’ve got thousands of discounts at your fingertips, you just have to know how to find them. Lauren Herren and Gina Barry use coupon apps all the time and say it’s really fairly simple, all you have to do is hold up your phone, they’ll scan it says Herren. Barry adds that she and her mom find coupons on their phone apps all the time and have never had a problem with a store accepting them.
A recent survey found that only about 30% of people with smartphones have downloaded shopping apps. Honestly, I didn’t know that they were there, that’s the only reason I haven’t tried them, Nichole Ranieri of Albany tells CBS6.
All you have to do is head to the App store on your phone. If it’s discounts and coupons you want for stores in the mall, try searching GeoQupons, Coupon Cabin and Snip Snap. All of these apps will provide you with either a digital copy of a coupon with a bar-code that can be scanned in the store or a code that you give to the cashier to cash-in on whatever deal is being offered.
If it’s a price comparison tool you’re looking for, try the Shop Advisor, Price Grabber or the Amazon Price Check app. These are all bar-code scanners that will show you what other stores are charging for the same product.
