Another African leader toppled by the Army - whose turn will it be next? The fall of Gabon's leader Ali Bongo has rattled the Continent's autocrats and democrats alike.
Cameroon and Rwanda both made hurried changes to their top military within hours of the coup in Libreville.
And they have good reason to be nervous: Since World War Two, 45 of the continent's 54 countries have suffered attempted coups, and military takeovers are on the rise again now.
The coup in Gabon is just the latest in a string of recent military takeovers on the African continent. Five other countries in the region have also seen coups. Most recently in Niger last month. In 2022, Burkina Faso saw two putsches in less than nine months. In 2021, Sudan's Prime Minister Abdulla Hamdok was ousted by military force, the same year Guinea and Mali experienced their own coups d'états.

A country having a corrupt family dynastry, the Bongo Family (…..) getting rid of the ruler, just like with the Arab Spring, having jubilant people on the streets, but what will happen after all the celebration? Will they work together as brethren and build up their country, having a democratic rule. I hope it will work for Gabon. With all the oil it should be possible to create something similar as Rwanda have done…

Why the professor talks like a coup is inherrently bad. Look at the arabic spring. That has a positive international association. Why africa don't has this?
How could you study these coups and not take in consideration the most obvious aspects? They are all an effect of the colonialism.

Peep that these series of coups are mostly bloodless, indicating there's quite a level of public backing. This isn't surprising looking at the abysmal performances of these ousted presidents.
Also, I can wager the next country whose government is gonna get toppled has a star in their flag, probably East African, or maybe the direct opposite.
It would have been interesting to also have heard from one or more historians or journalists who are from the African continent.
This is all organized and controlled by European countries & USA, they put in the presidents they can control and have benefits from. Africa is still colonized.
I believe that the main reason is the exploitation by the French.
All these countries are "ex" French colony.

Does this professor even ask the people of those countries…like why is he skipping the common factor "France 🇫🇷 "….basically all he said was ,the coups are happening because coups happen.
Nigeria should be next.
If these countries speak French or some other non native language. Let that sink in. The people want liberation and to prosper from the wealth of the land. Instead of having leaders who do the bidding of The West, or Europe who still prosper from the resources.
