gift cards are more often used but using them yourself then acturly giving it to some one(unless you own your friends an debt, and my friends actually accept them).and steam gift cards are my only way of getting games on steam bc i don't have a debit card AND MY FUCKING MOM IS ASIAN.

I do think a gift card that is on an online network, like steam, is a great gift, because I have no credit card, I could buy a gift card, and redeem it online. The rest like target and walmart gift cards are fucking stupid.
i hate gift cards. I take it as an insult when i get them. its the worst gift you can get, no thought involved, and its worse than cash. However, the reason gift cards exist is because many people believe you giving their child cash, which can be spent on hookers and drugs, is a bad thing. basically giving some one a gift card is saying you don't trust them with straight cash.

I'm American my parents immigrated here from Asia over thirty years ago and where they are from people in most cases don't give gifts but instead they give you money and whenever you find the opportunity to do so you return the money somehow by giving it to them on a special occasion like they did for you.
