“Your CPU doesn’t matter for gaming…” – I hear this all the time, allow me to show why this is just not true…
Link to “Can the $250 RX 6600 outperform the $1,200 RTX 3090 Ti?” Video – https://youtu.be/Ys_lNhHceU0
CORRECTION: At 5:19 the recordings of 1080p and 4K are flipped, the top is actually 4K, the bottom is 1080p, the middle is 1440p. You can tell from the GPU usage, it should be lowest on the top and it’s not. I missed this during edit because the frame rate was almost exactly the same and I paid more attention to that than the GPU usage, an oversight on my part.
BTW, a RTX 3060 or 2070 or 1080 would honestly be just fine on the Ryzen 7 1700X at 1080p or 1440p for most games, the 1700X is still a good CPU, it just badly holds back top end cards. If you have a RTX 3090 or higher, or buy the new RTX 4070 or higher, don’t be shocked if a new Zen 4 or Raptor Lake is in your future. Crazy times indeed!

I recently built a i9-9900 with rtx 3070
And 64 gb ram. Aorus z390 pro Wi-Fi got all 8 cores overclock to 4.9 ghz Very happy with performance.
Doesn’t matter when both are being bottlenecked by the crappy cooling in my laptop 🙂
In the Far Cry demo benchmark your CPU highest percentage usage was 36%. Your CPU usage was no where near 100%. This bad software/hardware choice. I’m guessing if you look at per core usage you will see this software is not maxing out all cores. The cores rendering the graphics you may find are 100%. We need more metrics. Personally I go fewer but faster cores; 6 core 12 thread is enough.
Had a loooong discussion within an fb group about cpu and gpu bottleneck. They insisted that there’s no such thing as gpu bottleneck.
Upgraded to 5800X from 3800X and I definitely felt like I get better performance at low performance. I need to get a better monitor
2:38 🤣🤣🤣🤣 5950x here… just bought a RTX 3060 12gb for $360 🙋♂ replacing my old GTX 1060 3GB 🤓 I use my computer for content creation and production. The graphics card is low on my list of needs. In fact, the 1060 3gb is going to be transferred into my older 2017 ryzen system with the 3900x. It will be replacing the MSI Twin Frozer GTX 660 card I got on FB marketplace for $30 back in 2017 for that build with a r5 1600. I'm breaking the Tech Deals rules 💪 #rebel lol
thank you for sharing, what would be a good overall gpu match for a i7-9700 ? anyone plz help….thank you
Hello,
Is my PC well built?
I have CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X
GPU: AMD 6600XT
1080p, 240Hz
It's always awesome to have your analysis on hardware and some actual testings. Thanks to you I understand better how my internal components are working together from the past years. Thanks again. Keep it up !
7:21 but your memory on the i9 is c19 and what do you have your ring speed at? If you used better memory and got your cpu memory controller set faster while lowering the latency of your ram you could probably add another 15 fps to your minimums.
Hey, I didn't see either or any GPU or CPU use go to 100% in your charts… maybe because they didn't, maybe because I failed. Either way I have a suggestion to change the value number on your MSI afterburner overlay to RED or bright GREEN for visibility sake; the one you want us to see. I can and will make a recording on how to do this in afterburner if you are so inclined to ask me to do so. What say you?
