Welcome to Savvy Sauté! My name is Leah, and I am all about spending less and creating more— which starts in the grocery store.

Prices are unpredictable, but so if life. So whether you are trying to save up for a special thing, or you are forced to spend less by your income, I recommend asking your local grocers if they offer discounts on items that are nearing their expiration. Maybe you haven’t noticed clearance stickers like I do at my Walmart, Kroger, etc. and that might be because of the time of day or day of the week you shop, so ask around! You can also search for discount grocery stores and hit up local farmers markets now that the season is here!

Happy Friday! We made it! I hope you all have a fun weekend. Let me know what’s on your meal plan this coming week!

Alicia h says:

The broccoli was 99c/lb with store card or 1.49/lb without. So it's also good to watch out for those things 🙂

Tammy Wines says:

Oh child I just found you. What a pretty smile you have.

Amy Clark says:

She is such a little darling girl! I always say this but I wish we had stores that had clearance like yours

Montesse W says:

Hi Leah. I can't believe you can get eggs for $1 right now. Ours are up to $3 a dozen for store brand. Most of our shortages here are frozen items, like French fries, and breaded chicken. Prices are seriously ridiculous. So I'm stocking up on sale items for now. Meal planning is easier for me right now since I started theme nights.
Monday = Meatless or Pasta
Tuesday /Thursday = Taco or Chicken
Wednesday = New recipes or Fun Foods
Friday = Fish or Seafood
Saturday = Leftovers or Appetizers
Sunday = Traditional Family Meal

BTW, your daughter is the cutest! That little smile and the sweet I love you. Makes me miss when my daughter was small. Have a great weekend!

Sherilyn Alexnder says:

Great job on cleaning/organizing your fridge, it looks so good, and so healthy with all that produce and cheese, yum!

Sherilyn Alexnder says:

Oh, I'm so jelly of those Fred Meyer/Kroger clearance price veggies, esp the peppers!! Your mom is totally a keeper for getting you all those awesome clearance veggies!!

Sherilyn Alexnder says:

Your daughter is adorbs, and always makes me smile!

Sherilyn Alexnder says:

Oh, rye toast is my fave too, and what a great price you nailed that huge loaf for! The only thing that seems low in every store in my area, (south FL), right now is chicken breasts in the flat packs. It's running $3.69/lb at Aldi and rarely available, (past three weeks), and it just went up to $2.29/lb at Walmart last weekend, but almost always available, go figure.

I used be able to get Salad Kits on clearance for $1.50 – $1.75 but last time I went they had increased to $2.25 – sad when clearances price rise instead of decrease . HOWEVER, I found a pot roast [ manager special ] I may have already mentioned for $3.18 . It was 1.03 pounds. Now for one person that is perfect.
I can make at least 5 meals some of which will be more than one portion. And the remainder will be used to make a soup or stew . This comes out to be around $.53/ portion for protein. Not bad at all. First two meals were Meat, Potato, Veg the next may be a Salad topped with Pork roast or Pork Tacos

Robin O says:

Clearance produce is my jam too. =) Great job snagging all those veggie deals!

Lynn Hager says:

Your daughter is adorable. I loved her glasses.

allyroo H says:

Have you ever tried water glassing eggs you get from your friend at church? I'm trying to get a hookup for some fresh eggs so I can try it. My neighbor has chickens, cool. They also have a rooster that has no idea what time of day it is–not cool! (just kidding, he's cute). Have you started pressure canning? Super super fun haul and I love the healthy food in the clean fridge!! Enjoy your weekend!

Jane Clay says:

We can’t get lettuce or sunflower oil n my part of the UK.
