We spent $45.94 cash and redeemed $6.60 in fast fuel coupons this week.
Watch to the end to see the substantial amount of food we have accumulated over the past 4 weeks.
We ran out of several ingredients this week, so we have some decisions to make.
-potatoes
-cheese
-yogurt
-almond milk
-yeast
-tomatoes
-eggs
We’re running low on bananas, onions and spices. Seems like I have the beginnings of a grocery list!

Frugal Life Happy Wife says:

Once again you did an amazing job with the shop and the meals. I am so impressed with what you have left after only 4 weeks! Do you think one of the upcoming weeks you may do a no spend or a very low spend just for fresh things or dairy?

My Hillside Garden says:

The asparagus. It is a more delicate veg. When purchased, it's probably two to three or more days since harvest. You could clip off a bit of the bottom and stick them in a glass with water, like you would flowers and put in the refrigerator with a bag just over top. Asparagus is good the way you fixed it, or with a bit of butter and parmesan cheese roasted in the oven, I bet they'd be good in the air fryer also. The butter, that's the way we've always purchased our butter, in sticks, four to a box. I know you do dairy free for some things, is this an issue for you? It has become one for me. Did you put your rolls in a paper bag? or plastic bag? Paper makes them hard, plastic makes them soft. Another great video. Enjoy your week! Catherine

Lindsay Giles says:

Hi Melanie! I have an asparagus hack for you! Tried and true. When you bring it home from the store stand it up in a drinking glass or vase, add water to it, and then put it in the fridge. I have had mine last up to 2 weeks this way, though typically it eat it much faster.

I’m loving your videos. I’m trying to learn how to shop smarter and this is very helpful 😊

Ten Thousand Days of Gratitude says:

Well done! I’ve not found much on Flashfood lately either. Way more people are using it now. I was one of the first to try it years ago and back then I got tons of deals. Lately, I’m still glad to get yoghurt and salad kits. Glad it’s getting popular enough that food waste is down.

Brit says:

I hate asparagus I typically sub green beans for asparagus. Love your videos. You get some great deals. I eat mostly vegan the exception is I do buy marked down meat from the butcher.

greatwhitenorthtreasures says:

Melanie, I'm pretty sure you're a food wizard. Heidi in Vancouver

Nancy Hemati says:

Excellent job!! Do you put the money you don't spend on groceries, but normally would have, toward something special? I'm just curious. Thanks for the video. I'm always interested in how other people do things!

Cycling On Plants says:

Hi Melanie 🤗 You never cease to amaze me! Wow! those buns looked really good! and all your meals too. You do indeed have a lot of food left this is most awesome 🥰 I love asparagus but my Handsome one isn't too keen on it so I just cook it for myself and eat it all. one pound will last me 3 meals and that's it. I eat mass quantities of vegetables though!LOL The asparagus you got was so fine – the bunches around here in Ontario usually have these thick stalks!

Nana says:

Would love to know which sub role recipe you used

Montesse W says:

Hi Melanie. Of course, as always, your pantry after just 4 weeks is amazing on such a small budget. For you future asparagus, cut the ends when you buy them and put the cut end in a little water, like flowers and store in the fridge. They last longer that way. I know you weren't a huge fan but try sautéing them in oil with garlic, salt, pepper and a squeeze of lemon. If you have it add parm. It's so good! But I like asparagus.

Angela Fleming says:

Hello Mel, its funny how different things are between the states and Canada. Honeycomb cereal comes in a yellow box here and butter always come's in 4 sticks in a pound here. Great grocery haul and great meals. I love asparagus. Hope you have a great week Mel!

Ellen Scott says:

You have done really well! The pantry you've built up is super impressive. I was glad to see you managed to get some ketchup. I find with asparagus you either hate or love it – not too many people are on the fence about it. It is my husband's and my favourite all-time vegetable! And, I am envious of the low price you paid for it. As a side note, my dad used to pick it wild in the spring in northern Ontario, where we lived when I was a kid.

Rhonda Spain says:

Cream of Asparagus soup is really good.

kathryn dockrey says:

That is an amazing amount of food leftover. Maybe use the asparagus in a quiche (with some sort of meat)? I also bought some of those 47c s'more oatmeal, but saving mine as a topping for an apple crisp. Great job !!

Mandy Roy says:

I think Silk Nextmilk is on at Gateway for $1.97 this week (& last) if they have any left. It's actually non dairy, but you can't tell the difference. I love it for making KD especially. I tend to use vanilla or chocolate oat milk (sometimes soy depending on sales and what's available) for my Vector cereal when I get up.

I think Walmart has cheese blocks (possibly lactose free?) 2 for $10. But that may be out of your budget now. Hopefully there will be a $4.44 sale again soon.

And I Can't Believe It's Not Butter is on at Walmart for less than $2, not sure if flyer feature or Rollback. That said, flyers are lacking this week.

Oh. 18 eggs at Sobeys for $5 this week.

Kari Bourgeois says:

I would freeze the asparagus if you don't use it and use it in eggs or soup in the future.

jodie c says:

Good finds n meals Mel. We buy asparagus , break the ends off. I'm sure u know to break ends off. Then we freeze it. When we want to eat it we put butter in frying pan and cook to our liking. If u have bacon u can wrap it in bacon n fry

Melody the Brave says:

If you need to recover bread that's gone hard in the future, run it under water for a few seconds and then pop it into the microwave for 30 second or so. It softens it right up =)

Mary Raybon says:

You did really good shopping. Your meals look amazing. You could make a Cream of Asparagus Soup with some. I know you have to take the bottom part off because it is a hard stem. I don't cook a lot of it either. You have a lot of food left and a great stock up to work with. Thanks so much for sharing. Looking forward to next week 🙂

Missy Sanders says:

Great job! Asparagus could be used in smoothies or pasta salad too. But, if you don't like the taste, I guess that is a no too.

Cindy Daniel says:

Good meals!!! I think turkey bacon club subs would be good next week. Your homemade rolls looked yummy.

Lisa Calandra says:

You are so good at this and your meals look great.

Barbara Gilmer says:

Another good week and so much left over!
