This is an example of tensile loading of carbon fiber/epoxy matrix composites we simulated using MultiMech. The models consisted of coupons with the same shape, but three different fiber orientations – 0 degrees (aligned to the loading direction), 10 degrees and 90 degrees (perpendicular to the loading). Different failure patterns can be observed, both when comparing orientations and between different regions of the same coupon. Failure mechanisms reproduced are consistent with actual crack morphology. Note, the highly accurate Fiber/Matrix interface debonding moment and its capture by MultiMech.
