Recently there was a MAJOR leak of much of the source code from iOS’s BootRom and iBoot software. Previously this information was secured in Apple’s Secure Enclave Processor, which meant it was very difficult to find exploits and vulnerabilities. But now, that could all change. The code is actually from iOS 9, but most of that code is probably still in use today. Another thing is the Bootrom can only be updated via a hardware update, so Apple could be in trouble if a major exploit was found there. This could also mean that jailbreaking will be much easier soon, since there will be many more opportunities to find jailbreak vulnerabilities in iPhones and other iOS devices.

Maybe Apple and Microsoft should go to a disclosed source model where it's not open source as in your not free to do as you please with it, your not even allowed to compile it, but you may look at it and leverage that in bug bounties … in this way they could get similar mass sifting security like open source but the trade off would be a rough start and probably increased accessing of the Admin account (ohhh omg) aka jailbreaking… and increased piracy and maybe a little ip infringement, but boo hoo, cry me a river… in today's world it's a cheap price for user security… but honestly I feel the open source model hasn't honestly been stress tested like a disclosed source Windows would get tested … if the current gen win 10 source and build tools were leaked in they're entirety right now… that system would get put through the ringer like no other system has even been before. Apple would face the same grilling. I don't think any open source system has ever been tested as hard as they would be so maybe it would be too much, or perhaps it would show that it never becomes more secure for all the testing and patching … but it's food for thought.
