Matt: Slashing your grocery bill. If you don’t think it’s worth your time to clip coupons, you have not met the Coupon Mom.

Speaker : Remember Stephanie Nelson aka The Coupon Mom. She scored some killer deals at the grocery store, but could she do the same thing at a drug store?
Stephanie: I certainly can. In fact, it’s possible to save more at the drug store. Let me show you how.
Speaker : When it comes to cough and cold medicines, Stephanie says …
Stephanie: The key is to buy those when they’re on sale with coupons. If you wait until you’re sick, you’ll probably have to pay full-price.
Dr. Oz: Stephanie you had your work cut out for you. We actually go into a drug store. You had no more than $1 to spend per aisle. How’d you do it?
Stephanie: We did great. I’ll tell you there is really no reason you should ever pay full price at the drug store.
Dr. Oz: I’ll tell you, the advice is so thoughtful, it’s so valuable and these are great ways to save money in the drug store now.

Priya: Julie, good morning. I wish I had that knowledge but instead I’ve brought on CouponMom.com founder Stephanie Nelson. She is going to teach us this morning how to save big bucks.
Stephanie: We don’t think of what individual servings cost. When you realize what they are, you’ll be able to save money. This apple cost $1.30. This banana cost 30 cents. This item’s on sale when I use the discount card and then I’ll use a coupon on top of that. I’ll pay a $1.99. I’m saving about half by combining them all.
Priya: Wait until you hear how much Stephanie pays.
Stephanie: $73.
Priya: 73 bucks. That’s a savings of $156.

Stephanie: This says 10 for $10. You don’t have to buy 10. You can just buy 1 for $1. What I’m trying to do today is to save the most with coupons and I have a coupon for $2 off 2 so I can get 2 absolutely free. Now I’m getting it for 9 cents. Most people wouldn’t know that you could get that because they’re going by the picture but when it comes to coupons, you always go by the words.
Speaker 4: She’s like the coupon Ninja. Oh my goodness, a whole $1.19.
Stephanie: I think we got everything on the list. Before any savings at all we’re at $130.41.
Speaker 4: Which is an average week at the grocery store.
Speaker 4: Look at that. 89 cents. That is insane. That’s insane.

Oprah: Whoa, whoa, whoa! Congratulations. It’s 71% savings. Pretty impressive, but is this doable do you think for the average family?
Stephanie: Absolutely. What I did there was I just combined store promotions with sales and coupons that are available everywhere in the country. All you have to do know how to put it all together. This can’t take that long to do or people won’t do it. If that takes half an hour to an hour to plan a week and you can save 90 bucks, that’s worth your time.
Oprah: There’s an art to it. Right? You get better at it as you go along.
Stephanie: Absolutely. There’s some specific steps we’ve outlined. I call it strategic shopping but it’s smart and it’s like being CEO of your family. You’re contributing financially.
Oprah: You are CEO of your family. We’ll be right back.

Speaker 10: Welcome back Stephanie with more money saving tips.
Stephanie: The drug stores are great because they have a full line of their own store brand of most over-the-counter medications and because insurance doesn’t cover over-the-counter medications that can be really costly. The drug stores brands are just as good. The active ingredient is the same but lots of times they have 50% off sales.

Speaker 2: How do you do that? At $60 there … You just make it
Stephanie: You just look at the best seller, the number one deal.
Speaker 2: Stephanie, again you don’t have to break the bank and you can get everybody down on your holiday list.
Stephanie: That’s right and you don’t have to spend all day making in the kitchen or making crafts. You can do these all quickly and simply.

If you want to save $100 a week on your groceries, you do need to plan be be organized.
Priya: Stephanie Nelson is know as the Coupon Mom.
Stephanie: People say, “There’s no coupons for what I use.” I’m like, “There’s always coupons for toothpaste.” So, at least save your money here so you have more money to spend on the food you like.
Priya: The moment of truth. Time to check out the savings.
Speaker 12: For a grand total of 25 cents.
Priya: 25 cents. You got a $100 worth of groceries for a quarter.

Matt: You’ve come up with something called the strategic shopping method. What exactly is that?
Stephanie: Strategic shopping is not about changing the way you eat. I want to emphasize that. It’s really about changing the way you buy the food that you like. This is real money, Matt. We are talking about thousands of dollars a year. I’ve done it for 16 years, $80,000. That’s a lot of money.
