Groupon, founded by Andew Mason, experienced a huge growth shortly after launch in 2007. Google even offered 6 billion dollars to purchase the company, but they passed on the offer to launch their own IPO stock ticker GRPN. Questionable accounting practices lead many to believe that Groupon is scam and wondering if Groupon is legit. The truth is that after the appeal wore off daily deal and digital couponing sites turned out to be a fad. Many other sites like Living Social, Gilt, Facebook, Google, Yelp and Amazon all had similar issues with their daily deal businesses.

Do you think turning down the 6b from Google and IPO-ing at over 10b helped make pre-IPO investors richer than they otherwise would be at a 6b sale? People say it was stupid to turn it down, but let's face it – Groupon was a pump and dump on the retail investor, and those orchestrating the whole thing were much better off by IPO-ing instead of selling out.

World Walker says:

I use Groupon all the time and they have amazing deals still what are you talking about

Thanks, theres hardly any videos on this and you did a great job explaining it

Roscoe Bryant says:

I use Groupon these days for popular artist concert tickets. Usually the tickets are deep discounted a week before the show through Groupon. I hope they continue offering concert tickets!

Moon Goddess Oracle says:

I just unsubscribed from them. I have never bought anything off there. But they are the pioneers of daily deals.

Great job Jeff, kudos to Dan too! I like the spiny thingy. Ahhh Groupon used to be my go to for movie tickets. They had their fair run, best to go on hiatus and try to wait out for their own reboot/revamp. There’s a French app that lets restaurants, bakeries and grocery stores sell items that are soon to perish on a 1st come/1st served kind of basis…maybe they could try something like that. Waste not, want not!

Matthew Anthony Moglia says:

All that and they ended up keeping some of my money because I have four or five Groupon‘s I never used. If your business is built on top of impulse buys, I wouldn’t expect it to last very long.

510truth21 says:

now starting to put up reports that I can use, but Groupon is still good, but a lot of merchants offer their own discounts now. a shame, from time to time, they were good.
