[UPDATE]** – As of late Oct.13, 2020 many of the booking services mentioned in this video appeared to have returned to providing travelers with the original / full Go To Travel campaign discounts.

[UPDATE]* – According to news reports dated Oct. 13, 2020 (after this video was published), the Japanese government has said it will continue to provide (maximum) discounts for travelers and that those who booked trips without the full discount will be compensated. With October seeing Japan’s Go To Travel campaign get into full swing with the addition of Tokyo to the action and the circulation of the campaign coupons a number of issues have emerged to inconvenience of some travelers, or would-be travelers.

Already some booking platforms are running out of budget to provide the full 35% discount on transport / accommodation packages citing a dramatic increase in bookings to / from Tokyo behind their decision to reduce discounts to just 3,500 yen. Other platforms have stopped selling campaign deals entirely.

Meanwhile news reports of travelers having their Go To Travel campaign coupons rejected at stores have highlighted issues regarding measures implemented to prevent fraudulent copying of the coupons.
