I go through some of my out of date can foods and see if they are still edible.

I've been eating food past their best before date for years. They are fine to eat even 15 years past the best before date. Its use by dates you need to worry about, where food rots. Best before just means as it says. Best before, not expired. It wont be able to rot when its sealed air tight in a can. However after around 17 years or so the can itself can begin to rust from the inside which will trigger a reaction for the food to start spoiling.

Anne Marie says:

make sure to have a manual operated can opener ready in case of SHTF. If you rely on an electric one, you' re pretty much toast,

QueenBee Bargains says:

I think the best way to go is to buy food you like, then use it and replenish your stock.

Donald Keating says:

actually unopened Jared food was found from George Washington's time and it was said to be still good to eat.

Admiral Preparedness says:

Did you find this food in your own pantry or did you get it from some where else. Sounds like you don't do the shopping in your house.

I have canned foods well over 10 years old and still good to the taste and nutriments. Smell, sight and taste do the litmus test here.

DO YOU MEAN DO NOT DO DO LIKE I DO DO, OR WHERE I DO DO.  COULD YOUI BE MORE CLEAR ABOUT THIS.

Thanks Carolina Prepper, for this information.  We don't need to throw away food, just because the can says it's "Best before….."  Also, I agree that SOME, and maybe most canned foods are still good beyond their "best buy" date.   For people to throw them away is wrong, in many ways.    But I'm skeptical about that 2009 chili being safe to eat!  Maybe it is; maybe it isn't ! ?   The guy we can't see, in this video (you),?   "apparently" tasted it!  (Yes I believe he tasted it, and all those items, even the yams).  But he didn't show us any after effects, nor did he eat a whole can of it either !  If so, did he get sick?  If not, then I'll continue to save MY outdated cans too!I'd like to see Carolina Prepper also show us a comparison of the same Chili recently purchased, with a another can that is past it's date.    Do they look the same?  Do they taste the same?  Also, are the vitamins the same, or do they diminish in time?     I know it may not make any difference to a starving person, as any food will be helpful (unless it's bad).    AND, what does a bad can look like, vs. a good can ! ?  So, when IS the cut off date to a canned item, other than deformities in the can?  Thanks Carolina Prepper, for letting me ask so many questions!

Tom Chandler says:

I would combine the Peas with the Potato Soup, and combine the Red Beans, Chili Sauce, and Orange Tomato soup together. Then heat it all and chow down. The Yams for dessert !

Basil Ganglia says:

Good video. Thank you! I ate some crackers my Grandfather had from WWII. They were crispy and crunchy and tasted great. I think they were from K rations not C Rations, since he was in the Pacific Theater. I could have that wrong (Backwards) but they were Government issued to the Military. They seemed like they were fresh from the store.

jerry rogers says:

Cream of potato soup? Pour it into a saucepan. Take milk and fill up empty soup can and add to the soup..mix it up well. Add some cheese, bacon bits, and a little sour cream.

Bryan Hascall says:

Read the directions on the soup. It's probably condensed and needs to be watered down.

ruizhernandeztrust says:

If it Campbell's probably it taste like salt. (no matter what's labeled in the can) HA! 😉

Mbuna Marcus - Aquariums, Cichlids and More says:

You still alive lol?

Darren Lloyd says:

ive only watched the first can opening so far but tbh most tomato soups are kinda jellyish because much like jelly when hot it's liquid but when cool its jelly…. i think its gelatin in it… but the reason its orange is only cause of it being harvested at a earlier time before it ripens to be Red, such as the reason you get ripened tomatoes on the vine instead of the cheap not so red ones in a box

I tried canned food of the '80's, nothing wrong with it

Massachusetts Prepper says:

Nice video, my experiences always been manufacturers put the dates on the products to get us to buy more stuff sooner. With 90% of the things that we buy you can go quite a while past the use by date and still be okay. Thanks for the information and sharing.
