Ashlie Leavelle says:

Tawra, were your kids picky eaters? I was raised with eating what was served, and veing required to try things. My Husband was raised to be a very picky eater…his whole family is. It is very hard having extended family over because they are all so picky. I am so thankful, my Husband has drastically changed his eating and is trying things the last 3.5 years we have been married. He was 36 when we married and wasn't required to eat a vegetable since age 3, because his Mom thought you should never require a child to eat healthy if they didn't like it. So he grew up eating a lot of carbohydrates and junk food. He sees how frustrating it is for me to try and cook for his family, and he says now he wishes he had been made to eat veggies etc…as a child. I was just wondering with your kids and eating on a budget how you handled picky eaters?

Ashlie Leavelle says:

I try really hard to be frugal and buy groceries on sale. I moved to Texas 3.5 years ago when I was married. The water here is awful!!!!
At Walmart, a gallon of water is $1.00. At Costco, I get 6 gallons for $3.80. I have budgeted weekly for water….the tap water here is awful!! We don't buy soda or juice unless its a very special occasion.

Your mom is super smart:)

the fist of a 3-6 yr old child is equal to the childs stomach 🙂 I have to try hard to remember that

Kate Ingles says:

Growing up my mum always had cereal and milk as a snack for after school or fruit , fruit for dessert after dinner , fizzy drink was a treat

I have MS so I don't know from one day to the next what my fatigue level will be. What I do is make double size meals. Freeze half and the days I don't feel good, I have a variety to choose from in the freezer, just bake. Microwave a veggie and dinner is ready. Simple cleanup too.

Sharon Vik says:

Freeze your loaves of bread.  You can take out and thaw what you will need for a day or two and this ensures you uss all the bread before it goes bad.  It's easy to "break off" what you need and you can even toast it to thaw it and then make your sandwich if you don't want to wait for a few minutes.  Much less time is needed if you are making something like a PB&J or toast longer for a toasted meat & cheese sandwich.  Saves money and time.  🙂

Sharon Vik says:

Coupons, Sales and Meal Deals.  My local grocery store (HEB) has incredible in-store coupons, sales and meal deals.  Take advantage.  I have gotten so much FREE food for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter meals buy just purchasing the meat.   🙂

Tana Frazier says:

portion sizes at restaurants have gotten so large, but they won't let you order a kids meal unless you are 12 and under. It is such a rip off. I have some restaurants that have a lighter portion offered for only a $1 cheaper another rip off.

lucinda monger says:

Love your channel. I have a tip. When you order dinner at a restaurant–ask for a to go container at the beginning of the meal. When the dinner comes I put half of it in the container. That way–if I want more–I just have to add it back on my plate. But if I take it home–if someone else wants the food–I have not eaten off of it.

WynnKidsNanny LoriVance says:

When I serve pizza or hot dogs, or something very teen popular, I also serve cut up fruits, salads, etc. to stretch the main course. I do the serving most of the time….my special needs girl will hoard all of the meats/main courses.

Oily's Humble Home aka The Oily Prepper says:

I have many of the same health issues you do Tawra, so I don't have the energy to cook every single night, so I save energy by cooking slightly larger meals and we eat the same meal two days in a row or revamped on day two. 😉

mary vasquez says:

I love your video thank you for both of you advise.🙂

Valerie Foster says:

You are right, we tend to eat with our eyes, and then waste what our stomachs can't hold

Patricia Peterson says:

1/2 C. is a normal serving for adult, less would result in malnutrition/anemia.
