This is, in my opinion, the most important CPU launch in 10 years. This is (in my opinion) going to move the industry from 2 cores at entry level and 4 cores at mainstream as it stands today to 4 cores as the entry level and 6-8 cores at mainstream.

This has been a long time in coming and from what I’ve seen so far, this really is a big deal.

Tech Deals says:

CORRECTION – I misspoke at one point in the video – Just to be clear – R5 1600 for $219 is the CPU to buy.

NOTE – This video has test results from 8 different games on 5 different CPUs – I normally don't like running built-in benchmarks, but to get this done in the time allowed, I ended up going with it. – I will retest most of these games using live game footage in the future as well as games that don't have built-in benchmarks such as Battlefield 1, Mass Effect Andromeda, and more…

HOWEVER – The long and short of it is that if you want to play games at 60+ FPS at 1080p, 1440p, & 4K, and you have enough GPU power, Ryzen 5 will do that very well. Just buy the R5 1600 and be a very happy PC gamer!

NOTE 2 – Just to be clear, since it isn't in the slides (but it is in the voiceover) – all clock speeds are fixed, no base/turbo/boost speeds – All systems have DDR4-3200 except i5-7500 which is using DDR4-2400 – GPU used was ASUS ROG Strix RX 480 8GB at factory speeds – R5 1500X & R5 1600 are using Wraith Spire cooler, everything else is using 120mm or 240mm liquid cooling – All tests run at least 3 times, GTA V was run a dozen times between the pair of i5 CPUs to make triple sure of that result, result is the final pass with the driving only.

NOTE 3 – Game performance would be exactly the same on Ryzen 7, the only benefit to Ryzen 7 is for non-gaming tasks, it is totally worth it for video editing/rendering, multi-tasking, etc. but not needed for gaming unless you REALLY want to future-proof yourself or you want to play games while rendering videos (which works really well!)

UPDATE – Several people have asked about using a cheaper cooler on R5 1600X to run at 4.0GHz fixed clock speed – That is simply not going to work, a Hyper 212 EVO or other similar $30 cooler is not going to allow that. The only coolers that I've used that allow it are 240mm liquid coolers, 4.0GHz is hard to reach on Ryzen on all cores. There is a reason 1600X does not come with a cooler, it needs much more than Wraith Spire can provide.

i Like this guys style

Carl Wells says:

I think I'm actually gonna go R5 1500X for my next upgrade- Reason – that cooler difference over the 1400 and binning.
Very tempted by 1600 – I need to save every penny though as I need to buy ram too (I will probably even only get 8gb ) along with motherboard.
Then later will upgrade to a gruntier processor/ cooling and extra ram.
I will initially be 1080 gaming with my GTX780 and later will do 1440 Ultrawide gaming on either a GTX1070/1070ti/1080/VEGA 56
I STILL may be swayed by Intel with these tasty new Coffee Lake Processors but I think the unlocked motherboards and lack of stock coolers add too much to the price.

I really like how he explain this computer stuff.

Ihateliberals901 says:

Do you recommend the 1600 for streaming on twitch or would a ryzen 7 chip be needed?

Its Neight says:

"The deal is the R5 1600". +Tech Deals – you dont want to know how many videos I watched to hear you say that lol. Watched all of the AMD build series videos and many others (because ADD). Good times. Thanks for the info!

Smol boye says:

For me the deal will be R5 1400 and a decent B350 mobo and 8GB for now. money is tight, i am rather poor.
